Troops advance to rescue civilian hostages: LTTE mounts artillery attacks from NFZ

LTTE terrorists continued mounting heavy artillery and mortar attacks from the No- Fire-Zone (NFZ) at the 53 Division troops now advancing towards general area Vellamullivaikkal on Friday (April 17).

According to ground military sources, terrorists manning the forward defences were caught in total disarray with numbers reported fleeing towards civilian populated patches taking shield from direct confrontation. At least 8 terrorists were killed and 9 others reported injured during the initial confrontations military confirmed said citing intercepted LTTE communication.

Also, terrorists were reported arguing with its rear assault groups for delaying of reinforcements to stall the advancing Army infantrymen.
