Troops continue to remove LTTE blockades in NFZ; 600 civilians seek refuge with Army

Troops of 58 Division operating in the West of Ampalawanpokkanai area yesterday (Apr 10) attacked several LTTE positions in order to make more room for the civilians held hostage by the terrorists in the No Fire Zone [NFZ] to come into the cleared areas.

Troops following the clashes, found nine bodies of slain LTTE cadres, 22 T-56 rifles, one rocket propeller grenade launcher, one pistol, three radio communication sets, and a stock of 25000 ammunition used for T-56 rifles. Also, snipers deployed in the forward areas reported shooting down of 15-armed LTTE cadres.

Meanwhile, 606 civilians sought refuge with the 58 Division soldiers during daytime yesterday. The group included 321 children, 112 women and 173 men. Troops after providing them with food and basic medical treatments send them to the welfare camp in Kilinochchi.

Troops of 53 Division operating in the southern anterior of the NFZ, yesterday pushed their forward boundaries further towards Mullaittivu on the A-35 road (Paranthan- Mullaittvu) and also dominated a part of the northern bank of the Nanthikadal lagoon. Troops battled the terrorists all day long and captured 4 bodies of slain LTTE cadres along with 13 T-56 rifles and one multi purpose machine gun [MPMG].

Humanitarian operation is being continued.
