Protestors from an unauthorized LTTE terrorist demonstration in London are alleged to have beheaded the statue of Sri Jawaharlal Nehru , the founder of free India and first Prime Minister in a symbolic act against the country.
The Metropolitan Police said that they have been investigating into the matter and no arrests have been made still.
On the day of the incident the LTTE supporters held a demonstration alleging India of supporting the military operation against the LTTE in Sri Lanka in front of the premises. In the morning the Indian High Commission officials found the smashed up pieces of the Nehru head wrapped up in a sheet.
The statue of Nehru is one put up by the City of Westminster close to the India House. The protesters are stationed in the Westminster area 24 hours in the parliament square in the City of Westminster area in London.
The police investigations have found the CCTV cameras in the place had been turned towards the sky so the figures of the wrongdoers would not be recorded.
The ABC live, a news website said, “As per reliable sources, Tamil rebels, LTTE supporters are supposed to be behind this” shameful act in London.
Indian Express website said, “Protesting Sri Lankan Tamils are being blamed for beheading the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru outside India House in London this morning.”
A demonstration of the supporters of the LTTE functioning 24 hours, demanding a ceasefire as a means to save Prabhakaran, is allowed to be held in the parliament square without any hindrance by the authorities. They have openly defied police orders to disperse so far. There is a lobby of governing party politicians supporting the demonstration. The continuous demonstration is going into the fifth day today.
In a complaint made to the Mayor of London a London taxpayer alleged that this is an act of letting a group of terrorists rule the London streets.
The statue of the bust of Sri Javaharlal Nehru close to the India House premises , where the London High Commission of India is also situated in Aldwych was seen beheaded on Friday April 9.
