Massive stocks of explosives, lethal weapons on display

A massive haul of weapons, ammunition and other warlike military hardware recovered from Tiger terrorists in Udayarkattu village by 572 Brigade troops during search operations within a matter of only a week is now kept for display from today (3) under the instructions of its Brigade Commander Colonel Senarath Bandara.

Those warlike items kept for display include three 130 mm artillery guns, one 122 mm artillery gun, six 122 mm artillery trailers, two large LTTE artillery shells that are yet to ascertain their destructive capacity, a large stock of T-56 and Multi Purpose Machine Guns (MPMG), mortar shells, hand grenades, anti personnel mines, detonators, detonators codes, claymore mines, a stock of explosives and other military related items.

Meanwhile, 57 Division troops, engaged in search and clear operations in Visuamadu area on Monday (2) daytime collected three hundred and sixty-two hand grenades, fifty one 60mm mortar bombs, fifty-four rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, four hundred and eighty five rounds of T-56 ammunition, one T-56 magazine, one radio set, one battery, eleven map, one tripod, one Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition drum, eight Banglore torpedoes, two claymore mines weighing about 11.5 kg each, one claymore mine weighing about 15 kg, five claymore mines weighing about 2.5 kg each, two anti tank mines, fifty five anti personnel mine, one hundred and seventy-eight LTTE medals, one claymore mine of about 1.5 kg, one pistol cover, twenty-three pouches, seven 81mm mortar bombs, one thermo baric weapon, ninety-five LTTE identity cards, one LTTE pack, nineteen injection needles, two outboard motors, eighty-one CDs, thirty seven LTTE photographs, four hundred and fifty-seven bags of rice and one thousand body bags abandoned by the terrorists.

During the same day (2) 55 Division troops engaged in search and clear operations in Vannakkulam area found one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) bomb containing high explosives two anti tank Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) bombs containing high explosives, 250 grams of C-4 explosives, two claymore mines weighing about 2.5 kg each, three Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) bombs, five hand grenades, one detonator code, two pouches, two batteries, two water cans, four backpacks, ten Magee noodles packets and some canned foods.

In the meantime, same Division troops, engaged in a search operation in the general area Puthirani recovered one T-56 weapon, one T-56 magazine, twenty rounds of T-56 ammunition, two Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) bombs containing high explosives, three Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) chargers, five hand grenades, twenty-eight detonators, three 9-V batteries, one torch battery, one I-com radio set, eight field dressings, four socks pairs, some food items and medicines on Monday (2) afternoon. Meanwhile, troops of 59 Division conducted a search operation in Mullaittivu town and recovered one T-56 weapon one Rocket Propeller Grenade (RPG) pouch, two RPG bombs and four hand grenades, the same day.
