Terrorists fire upon fleeing civilians, one receive injuries - Puthukkudiyiruppu East

Forty-five Tamil civilians, who had been forcefully held by LTTE terrorists as human shields, have managed to reach security forces yesterday (8 March) seeking safety for their lives, defence sources in battlefront said.

Troops of 8 SLLI (Sri Lanka Light Infantry) attached to 581 Brigade operating in Puthukkudiyiruppu east defence line rescued civilians who had been fired upon by the terrorists while escaping LTTE held area, defence sources added.

According to the available sources, a 17-year-old girl who received gun shot injuries due to LTTE indiscriminate fire was later transferred to the hospital following initial treatment given by the troops of army Medical Corps.
