Entire Amplavanpokkani area comes under army control


Sri Lanka Army 58 Division troops have brought the entire Ampalavanpokkani area under their control this afternoon (Feb 20).

According to the battlefield sources, troops of 10 SLLI (Sri Lanka Light Infantry) and 6 GW (Gamunu Watch) have crushed the last LTTE strongholds in the area in an offensive launched this morning. Troops have so far found seven bodies of LTTE cadres along with five T-56 riffles.

Meanwhile, sources said that the terrorist have been firing 122mm artillery at troops from guns positioned in the no-fire-zone. Troops are now manoeuvring further south towards the northern borders of the Puthukkudiyiruppu built-up.

Ampalavanpokkani is a remote village situated on the western banks of the Challai lagoon, about 8 km north of the Puthukkudiyiruppu junction .
