LTTE makes desperate attempts to hold Puthukudiyiruppu; an LTTE ground commander killed

Troops of 1 Gajaba Regiment (1 GR) and 4 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (4 VIR) on 681 Brigade has heavily confronted with LTTE terrorists in general area Puthukudiyiruppu as LTTE terrorists making stiff resistance on advancing troops for defending the LTTE's last stronghold, Puthukudiyiruppu built-up yesterday, 26 February.

An LTTE ground commander, known as Shankar, who led the battle against security forces in Puthukudiyiruppu area, was killed during the fighting, ground troops claimed. Intercepting LTTE transmission it is confirmed that 14 LTTE terrorists were killed while 30 others suffered injuries during the hours long fighting.

Meanwhile, troops of 18 Gemunu Watch (18 GW) of 641 Brigade serving under Task Force 4 (TF4) have engaged with LTTE terrorists in several occasions in general area Puthukudiyiruppu right through out the day, 26 February.

Intense fighting results heavy damages to the enemy, intercepting LTTE communication channels ground troops confirmed. Heavy fighting commenced around 7.30 AM and lasted till 5.30 PM, military report said.
