Troops of the 58 Division and Task Force -4 continued forcing into the last LTTE garrison township Feb 25, in three offensive fronts from Northwest, west and south at Puthukkidiyirippu as ground troops positioned for a final thrust towards the remaining LTTE foothold, security sources said.
According to battlefield reports, heavy fighting was reported in general area Palamattalam and Puthukkudiyirippu between security forces and LTTE throughout yesterday. 58 Division troops claimed killing 11 terrorists and injuring 6 others during separate fighting ensued with LTTE while TF -4 troops also confirmed engaging in intense fighting with LTTE terrorists at Puthukkudiyirippu.
Meanwhile, 58 Division troops conducting search operations in the outskirts of Puthukkudiyirippu have also uncovered 4 slain LTTE bodies along with 7 T-56 assault riffles, an I-com set and a multi-purpose machine gun.
Counter terrorist operations are continuing in the area.
